Employment news today from the U.S. Department of Labor overall was mixed and a bit confusing. The economy added a paltry 36,000 jobs, an insufficient number to meaningfully affect the overall unemployment rate, yet the unemployment rate dropped to 9 percent. Heavy snowfall is being blamed by many economists for the discrepancy in today’s report. I’ll leave it to the economists to hash out those details.
