How Shiny is it Really? - PepsiCo’s Deliberate Journey to Transform Performance Management
Christopher Rotolo, Vice President Enterprise Organization Development, PepsiCo
Over the past several years performance management has been a hot topic for talent management professionals and the popular press. Organizations are rushing to redesign their processes towards several emerging trends including no ratings, team-based metrics, continuous and crowd-sourced feedback, multiple manager check-ins, and no documentation. There are good reasons for this upheaval. In our rush however, talent management has failed to distinguish between good design and fad – we have been victims of the bright shiny object syndrome. PepsiCo like most companies has been on a journey to redesign its PM process. However, instead of being lured in by the fads we have taken a much more deliberate approach. This session will focus on how a large multi-national company underwent its transformation from design, to pilot, to implementation and evaluation – including the trade-offs and decisions that had to be made along the way.

- Identify your organization’s cultural or values-based elements that should guide the performance management design
