Executive VP Human Resources, Hawaii Pacific Health
Gail came to Hawai‘i Pacific Health in 1987 as a nurse at Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women and Children. Her current role with Hawai‘i Pacific Health is Executive Vice President and reports directly to the CEO, Ray Vara. Her areas of responsibility include HR, Organizational Effectiveness, and General Services. In her Human Resources capacity, she is responsible for system wide Human Resources strategy, planning and management including: workforce development, recruitment, retention, employee benefits/compensation including executive compensation/benefits, employee wellness, employee/labor relations, union contract negotiations, worker’s compensation, volunteer services and employee communications. She also oversees system wide Organizational Effectiveness which entails leadership development, succession planning, coaching and mentoring programs. As a part of this division, Gail also oversees Clinical education and staff development. Gail oversees HPH’s General Services Division, including Food Service, Environmental Services, Facilities and Maintenance, Safety and Security and Biomedical engineering. She has been through two mergers: the merger of Pali Momi Medical Center with Kapi‘olani and then the merger of Kapi‘olani Health, Straub Clinic and Hospital and Wilcox Hospital to create Hawai‘i Pacific Health in December 2001. Gail holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Purdue University and MBA with a concentration in Human Resource Management from Hawaii Pacific University. Gail is adjunct faculty at the University of Hawai‘i and teaches in the school of business and school of nursing.
