Part 1:
Interactive Work Lab: The World Café - Shaping Our Futures Through Conversations That Matter
Our Conversation: "Turning Learning into Action"
What have you learned and what will you implement?
Barb Eddy, Vice President Human Resources at QM Environmental
The World Café (sometimes called Knowledge Café) is a structured conversational process intended to facilitate open and intimate discussion, and link ideas within a larger group to access the collective intelligence or collective wisdom in the room. Since its inception and creation by Juanita Brown and David Isaacs in 1995, the World Café has been used in many different types of settings, with variations and different purposes but one thing remains the same, it’s a fantastic way to organize planning sessions for change, increase communication, and bring people together to work towards a common goal. Despite this rich history and track record of success, many organizations don’t know about, let alone employ this strategy.
In this highly interactive and participatory lab, Barb Eddy will share the ideology behind The World Café. She will walk you through the process of designing your own World Café, and you’ll have the opportunity to see it in action as you participate in a mini World Café event, “Turning Learning into Action”. The conversation that participants will have during this interactive lab will center around what you have learned over the course of the event and what you will implement when you return to your organization.
Barb will detail essential parts of The World Café so you can hold your own including:
• The World Café Story
• The Seven Design Principles used in this Conversational Leadership Method
• Creating an Event
• Encouraging Collaboration through Dialogue
• Analyzing the Data
• Uncovering Patterns and Themes
• Developing Action Plans
• Where to go for Additional Resources and Support
