Lifeguard or a Swimmer? What Kind of Leader Are You?
Using Performance Management and Mentoring to Identify Your High Potentials and Develop Them to Succeed
Craig Woodall, President, Byng Leadership Inc
What separates Lifeguards from everyone else in the pool area? They may be the most competent swimmers in the building but their job is to avoid swimming at all costs. They are there to guide, mentor and supervise. Their job is done when the new swimmers are competent enough to swim unaided and with less supervision. Using this analogy, we will discover how to become better lifeguards ourselves, allowing those around us to flourish and excel, thereby creating a legacy for the future. During this session we will:
• Understand why we find it so difficult to let go
• Learn the basics of being a great ‘Lifeguard’
• Connect succession planning to personal development
• Recognize the temptation and resist the urge to jump back into the pool
